preserve land at Highland Hideaway (over 1100 acres) has plenty of high quality
pheasants, chukars, and quail. Amenities for hunters include: rooms that

Riverside
Casino.

This
motel offers a free indoor pheasant cleaning station that includes: three-basin
stainless steel sink, stainless steel table, freezers for storing birds, and

English River Wildlife Area
The English River Wildlife Area is in the far northwest corner of Washington
county.

Clemons Creek Wildlife Area
Visit the diverse habitat at Clemons Creek just W. of Washington, IA.
Contact the Conservation Board to receive your certification for hunting at
Clemon's Creek.

Sockum Ridge County Park
Sockum Ridge, west of Crawfordsville, has a significant deer population.
Sockum Ridge also has an extensive biking and hiking trail system, so be
prepared to share the area.

Schmitter Heritage Area
Schmitter Heritage Area is located north of Lake Darling State Park in the
southwest corner of Washington County.

Rubio Wildlife Area
Rubio Wildlife area is just north of the small town of Rubio, IA in the
southwest corner of Washington County. This area is especially good for Pheasant Hunting in the late season!

Of
Iowa's 99 counties, Washington County was among the top 15 for highest deer
count at the end of 2007 (Iowa DNR, 2008 Deer & Turkey Harvest Report).
Washington County is also a great location for pheasant hunting, as mapped by
the Iowa DNR (Iowa DNR 2007 Small Game Distribution).
Washington County is Zone 5 for deer and Zone 7 for turkey. Hunters will
also find waterfowl and quail.
Areas ranging from wetlands to timberlands give hunters a wide range of field
opportunities.
