Leadership Washington 2008-2009

Leadership Washington is a seven session program designed to educate civic-minded individuals about current issues and concerns which face the Washington area.
Sept. 10 Orientation— This is your opportunity to learn about the upcoming 7 class sessions and meet you class members.
Oct. 8 Economic Development and Finance Day— You will tour the Washington Municipal Airport and the community, talk with WEDG and Chamber Executives, and learn about the banking system.
Nov. 12 Education Day— You will tour the schools and talk to teachers and principals. A class picture will be taken this day.
Dec. 10 Health/Recreation Day— You will visit the Washington County Hospital & Clinics and get a first hand look at Washington’s Ambulance Service, Community Y, and Washington Community Center.
Jan. 14 Business, Industry Day and Media Day— You will learn about Washington’s businesses and industries. You will have a tour of the Washington Public Library. You will see how the Washington Evening Journal is printed and see KCII Radio in action.
February 11 City and County Government Day— You will visit the County Jail, Safety Center, Police Station, County Courthouse and City Hall.  You will speak with a police officer, investigator, County Sheriff, and the County Attorney. 
March 11 Agriculture Day— You will tour area-farming operations and learn how much it really costs to be a farmer. 
April 8 County History Day—  Traditionally this has been one of the highlights of the year.  You will spend the day with Mike Zahs touring Washington County.  You will go to old towns, Indian burial mounds and have an Amish meal.

Stone Coasters Available Again

Many of you expressed disappointment that you hadn't gotten a set of Washington Stone Coasters before they were lost in the fire. Now they are available at the Chamber Office or Farrell's for $20 a set. Also they are being sold as a fundraiser for the Tourism Committee.
